The Fort Pillow Affair.

We understand that a gentleman in town who is lately from the neighborhood of the recent reported massacre at Fort Pillow, states that the reports in reference to that affair are very grossly exaggerated; and there is no truth in the statement that the rebels shot any of our troops, colored or otherwise, after their surrender. It seems the attack was made from two sides, and our troops running from one of the assailing parties came upon the other, and were thus between two terrible fires, hence so many were killed. The story about the burying alive is also pronounced a grand canard. We hope for the sake of our common humanity that this version is the correct one. — Quincy Herald.
