This is the earliest known portrait of Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln's son Robert, who owned the original, believed that it was taken in Washington in approximately 1848, at the time of his father's service in the United States Congress. At this time Lincoln was thirty-eight or thirty-nine years of age.
