Lincoln Log Cabin, Illinois

The Thomas Lincoln family built this simple cabin upon their arrival in Illinois in 1830. Like so many other Americans, the Lincolns decided to migrate westward after facing poor prospects in southern Indiana. They found their way to central Illinois, near Decatur. The twenty-one year old Abraham resented his father's demands that he work the family farm without compensation, and soon left home for the young village of New Salem, Illinois.
