536. Henry C. Whitney (Statement for William H. Herndon). [1887?] In looking over the Life of Lincoln by Chauncey F. Black. I can see that he has given a false coloring to many of the assumed facts. It would have been a much more readable book had you written it out in full. Fell [1] told me at great length of the mode he adopted to induce Lamon to change the statements shewing the connection between our friend & Abe Enlow. Under the circumstances, suppositions & possibilities I don't see how Lincoln received the name of "Abraham"? Do you know? Library of Congress: Herndon-Weik Collection. Manuscript Division.
