Born in Kentucky, ten miles from the birthplace of AL, Linder came to Illinois in 1835. A lawyer, he served in the General Assembly with AL, as attorney general,

and as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1860. He wrote a colorful memoir, Reminiscences of the Early Bench and Bar of Illinois, which was published after his death. (HEI)
