Chicago Ills 13 Dec 1866 My Dear Friend I send copy of last note I rd from Mr Lincoln Its date was the last time I ever looked upon that benign countenance the last grasp of his friendly hand You ask me to note his religious sentiments. I have no well defined indication of his religious sentiments I think he was naturally religious, but very liberal in his views, I think he believed in "Jesus Christ, and him crucified." I will see you at Springfield during the session of Legislature. [1] Yours Truly Library of Congress: Herndon-Weik Collection. Manuscript Division. Library of Congress. Washington, D.C. 2898
