Note from page 649: 4. Rev. Charles Chiniquy (1809 — 99), a Roman Catholic priest responsible for bringing colonists from Canada, France, and other European nations. His break with the church and the criminal prosecution in which he was represented by AL are portrayed in his autobiography, Fifty Years in the Church of Rome, 3d ed. (Montreal, 1886), which also recounts a visit to Washington during which AL purportedly spoke of his destiny (688 — 96).
