Burlington Iowa Oct 30th 1866

Dear Sir

your letter of 27th inst is Received, and in answer have to say that I cannot give dates, as to the arrival of Kelso, or his leaving N Salem, or his whereabouts, nor can I give the desired information of Dr. Duncan Recollect both the men very well, but so long a time has intervened, that I cannot give dates, but they were in New Salem in the years of 1832 & 1833,

In answer to 3d question, My Father & John Cameron built the New Salem Mill in 1828 & 1829, he moved from N. Salem to Concord neighborhood in 1834,

Ann Rutledge died Aug 25th 1835, I will forward my answer to your letter of recent date in a few days as I have it ready, as soon as I can get it transcribed in a legible hand.

I fully appreciate the importance of the answers to your questions, Have compared notes with parties who were eye witnesses to the incidents related, Have Just returned from Madison Co, some 200, miles west of this place, & compared notes with John Jones formily of Menard Co Ill, who fully coroborates my statements.

would be very happy to visit you, but business engagements forbid at present, Hope to see you after I get moved to Oskaloosa, to which place I will move inside of ten days, and to which place you will address me in the future,

Will be highly gratified to Receive a copy of your lecture,
