Burlington Aug 12th 1866.

Dear Sir

your two letters of the 8th & 9th inst. is before me and contents noted. I have to say in reply that notwithstanding I am very much engrossed with business, I will put forth my best efforts to comply with your wishes, in having my answer ready the 1st of Oct, about which time I expect to move to Oskaloosa in this State, which will in all probability be my permanent residence, having been sent to this place at an early stage of the War as Provost Marshal of 1st Congressional Dist of Iowa, my residence here is temporary.

When I get my answer prepaired, I will if at all practicable visit you, as I would like a personal intervew as there are some things involved in a full answer to your Interrogatories, of a delicate characture No charge for time service or expense will be made, as I will be more than compensated, if I can contribute any thing to the history of that Great good Man, whose name and fame will ever live green in the Memory of a greatful American people

I Am Dear Sir

Very truly your Friend
R B Rutledge
