107. William G. Greene to William H. Herndon.

Tallula Ills Dec 20th 1865

Dear Sir

Yours of 16th inst. recd & contents noted. In Apl. 1836 I saw Thos. Lincoln A. Lincoln's Father I stayed over night with him he was rather a square built man a bout six ft. high I would suppose when young & full fleshed that his weight would have been about 185 lbs if my memory serves correctly his Eyes were Gray or Rather Bluish something of the colour of S. T. Logan of your City while his Manors wer what might be termined Backoodsish yet they were easy so much so that I allmost would say they were polished He was passionately fond of humerous jokes & stories it was my judgment at the time I saw him & still is that he had no superior in "Story telling" especially when we take in to account that he was destitute of an education I regret that I cant give you a more minute description but it has been almost a Third of a Century since I saw the good old man and then only for one short night as it appeared to me as his wit humor a stories charmed me.

Truly
W G Greene
