465. Jesse W. Fell to William H. Herndon.

Normal Sept. 20/70

Dr Sir

In complyance with your request years ago, I intended writing you a Statement of my recollections of Lincoln's religious views. — Last winter I learned you had sold out your Ms. to Wa Lamon — who renewed the request. Lately he has done so again, & in response thereto I have written the enclosed, which I will thank you to examine and Send it back to me, telling me, briefly, how it compares with your own recollections. Hoping you will find time to do so at an as early a day as possible I am

Truly yours
Jesse W. Fell

P.S. Of course I did not Know Mr. L. half as well as you, but have written from my Stand-point. Am I not correct in my Statement as to his views being pretty well represented by Parker? — I so understood him in substance tho' not in terms — or words. —
