I used to go down to the river and play cards with Lincoln he and Jno Johnston & Jno Hanks built a boat at Sangamon Town lived in [shanty?] about 90 feet from the River Sawed his [lumber?] at Broadwells mill in Sangamon Town Mill up on the town I next knew Lincoln in New Salem: he boarded with me in N Salem He was engaged to Ann Rutledge Lincoln was PM and kept it at my house was Elected PM & kept it for him while in the legislature Played cards went to horse races thru mauls pitch quoits wedges & All in 1831 Library of Congress: Herndon-Weik Collection.
