Petersburg Ills., July 19, 1865.

Dear Sir:

I am in receipt of your favor of yesterday's date. I rec'd no letter from you, telling me to express Mr Shorts' letter, nor did Mr. Miles give me such instructions.

Old settlers tell me Mr. Lincoln was elected Captain of a Military Company

before the breaking out of the Black Hawk War; being another company than the one he commanded in that War.
