Capture of the Rebel Col. Carlin.

A special dispatch from Jacksonville published elsewhere, informs us that an agent of Provost Marshal Fry of the 10th District, has captured the notorious rebel Col. John C. Carlin. Carlin has been at least twice an inmate of the Military Prison at Alton, and as many times succeeded in effecting his escape. Since his last escape he has been concealed by the rebel sympathizers of Montgomery, Fayette, Macoupin, and Jersey counties. Latterly he has been acting as the confederate of the traitor Clingman in his outrages upon the Union men of that section of the State. The Alton papers report that Carlin with a Confederate thief and rebel named Henderson, was at Jerseyville on Saturday night last, in the vicinity of which place he is said to have found abundant sympathy. This discovery, doubtless, has led to his arrest.

It is to be hoped that this time he will be more securely guarded.

Since writing the above we have received a dispatch which appears elsewhere, giving a very full report of the capture of Carlin. The law-abiding people of Greene county, without distinction of party, have done themselves the highest credit by promptly uniting to put an end to the operations of a band of outlaws who have so long defied the civil authorities.
