Holmes Student Center
The Leslie A. Holmes Student Center was built in 1962. The 15 story tower, which doubled the size of the Student Center, was not added until a few years later. The tower mostly contains hotel rooms for visitors and atop the tower is a ballroom. Listed below are a few of the areas and services available within the Holmes Student Center.
The following is from a brochure from the early 1980s describing the Holmes Student Center.
The Holmes Student Center is centrally located and provides recreational facilities, an atmosphere for intellectual discussion and a gathering place for friends. Approximately $10,000,000, derived from the issuance of revenue bonds, was spent to build and equip the facility. Funds for operating and maintaining the Center come from student fees and internally generated income.
The Center exists for all members of the university family-students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests. Through its various boards, committees, and staff, it provides a cultural, social, and recr eational forum to make leisure time an integral part of the total educational process. The Center furnishes facilities for the academic community as well as for businesses and organizations desirous of guest rooms and meeting space.
