The following ten entries have been chosen at random from
the "Personal War Sketches" book. The book's entries were
numbered, and that number appears with the veteran's name, but the names
themselves have been arranged alphabetically. Each selection offers
the opportunity to view the facsimile of the veteran's page in the book,
or of a transcription of the information. The transcription is far easier
to read than the facsimile and, with some (although not all) corrections
of spelling or punctuation, is as exact a duplication of the veteran's
entry as could be achieved.
Hyperlinks have been established within the text of their
accounts to provide historical and contextual information for many of
their experiences. After the "Index" page you must use your
"back" and "forward" keys to navigate the different
sites.
Some of the battles cited by the veterans are actually
part of an even larger engagement, or are better known by an entirely
different name altogether, and the links that are established reflect
these variations. A few were remembered only by the veterans, and the
names of others have been distorted by the passage of years; in these
cases links could not be made to relevant sites.
